Сравнительно недавно почетный профессор Университета Торонто Эллен Ходнетт проанализировала 22 исследования, в которых были изучены свыше 15 000 родов по всему миру. Социальная поддержка во время родов, где бы они ни происходили, в Иране, Нигерии, Ботсване или Соединенных Штатах, сокращала их продолжительность и снижала необходимость как в медикаментах, так и в экстренном кесаревом сечении.
